White House Tribute to Milton Friedman
On May 9, 2002 a ceremony honoring Milton Friedman on his 90th birthday
was held at the White House. Remarks by President George W. Bush
and Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld follow. Others who spoke
at the event were Professor Gary Becker, Attorney General Edwin
Meese and Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan.
University of Chicago Tribute to Friedman
The University of Chicago was the Friedmans’ intellectual
home for several decades. November 7 and 8, 2002, in celebration
of Milton’s 90th birthday, the University brought together
a number of friends and admirers to discuss the range of his work
and it’s application to current scholarly and public policy
issues. Among the presentations was commentary by George Shultz.
Two Lucky People Tribute
On the occasion of the publication of Milton and Rose Friedman’s
memoirs the University of Chicago Press, held a celebratory banquet
at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. Among the papers presented
were the following by Casey Mulligan, George Shultz and William
E. Simon.
